EXPERIMENTING

EXPERIMENTING

The bottles that i hard that i am going to be experimenting with

Typical LED light source

trying it with fliling a glass with water  then using the light

i had shacken the the bottle, with a litlle detergent in it, too see what effects i could do with the bottle. i found it to be quite cool and fun, whilst being interactive to the person

next i had my gin bottle, and seeing how different colors looked with the light shining through it. i reackon it looks pretty awesome!

from a far i reackon it produces some crazy lighting effects!

working with graphics over the top of your bottles, looks again cool, as it lights the colours and disperses them

CONCEPTS AND DEVELOPMENT

CONCEPTS AND DEVELOPMENT

Concepts. of how i can use light to interact with the pre exsisting bottles.

Thinking again of making it solar powered, bottom end can go into a garden or something, and glow in your garden

wanted the bottle to be not restricted by just one, so i have a part where i could place many types of bottes into it, and the light piece will be inside it.

figuring out how i would present it, and the context in which it can be used. like either hanging from a curved neck in the coner of the lounge/room, and or hanging from the roof using mains power.

Or i would have this solar powered in a garden ituation hanging out side like some sort of latern, or night light in the back yard. to highlight the gardens.

INSPIRATION

INSPIRATION

I found this to be interesting from the reflecting lights that came from the peice

I found this to be be interesing as it uses wind to generate power to the lights work. This is also chosen cause of its crazy form that comes from it.

This just shows how something with no character can become something amazing with lights inside it. which i could use in my design idea.

This caught my attention from the crazy shapes that can be made from bottles when they are put together to create an overall shape. This with cool lighting colours on the inside produces somethng amazing.

This is cool from what organic forms can be made from something that is not organic, from which light travels through the piece and emphasizes the intricate details, and can be seen from a far.

I like the simple form that is made from re- cycled bottles.

This was interesting from the shadows that are made from the bottles. i want to try and capture this, so the user is enticed by the lighting device.

i find these cool, just from the awesome lighting effect that is given off by them

PART B- CREATION

PART B- CREATION

“Light and illumination are inseparable components of form, space and light. These are the things that create ambiance and feel of a place, as well as the expression of a structure that houses the functions within it and around it. Light renders texture, illuminates surface, and provides sparkle and life.” - Le
Corbusier

As the keyword of this project, respond, implies, you are asked to create a lighting device that
embodies, represents or invites a coherent sequence of action and reaction, based on your
independent research and development of your own view and contention. Your creation may fall under one of these three representative categories of 1) intervention in a real-world issue; 2)
autonomy within an artefact; and 3) interaction with user

SO WHAT AM I GOING TO DO???

Well for me this project took me awhile to figure out what i wanted to do let alone figure out which categories to place it under. But after talking to some of co inspiring industrialists, he inspired me to do something that could help today's society in some way. And in which way im going to do this is by recycling and then reusing. This concept will be endevoured by re using old glass or bottles in a form of 'fun' lighting system.

Im not sure if this comes under the category of intervention, interaction or even both. so ill go with the flow and see what my tutor says and see where i can go with my ides for this project.

Finales

Finales

In these final pictures, i tried to capture the vertileness, functionality, detail, and the context of the brightness of the lamp/torch.

Construction

Construction

I needed weights inside the bass to counter my really long stiff goose neck, so i will add two in

Here ive decided to move the weights around in the bass, so i have placed the hole in the center of the lead  so the biggest end can just fit in.

This is the other side of the lead that jsut had the whole cut in,. this is for the bigger nut to go onto, and be stuck into, so the neck dosnt come out, and we be able to use the counter weight more properly

ive used European cedar as my wood for the base. ive manual routed it out for my counter weights to go into

here i had to re thread the tip of my exsisting goose neck as the thread was way to fine. so changed that to a M16 thread cut.

got a nut that was m16. had to lathe it in half because it was to fat.

thats how it threads onto the new goose neck

How it will be assembled with the counterweight

electronics that i am using, jsut 3 LEDs , with a button as the switch, that is placed in the center

exsisting battery pack that i am incorporating in my design

how my goose neck and base look when they have been constructed.

Sketchs develp

Sketching/development

HEre i was sketching form, how things are going together in the construction phase.
i came into a lot of hicups when it came to constructing the actual lamp

new design aspect

New Design Aspect!

With my heading ive decided to make it more functional. This willl be done by making it more versitile than just your conventional desk lamp. i want it to be able to be a portable torch, and night light on your desk.

This will be done by making the head peice have all the connections needed to operate on its own.
