RADIO PROBLEM!!
i decided on doing research into talking/listening with something in your hand to driving
so here im researching distracting doing more than one thing a the same time is very distracting and hard to do your intended activity. This is not only a saftey issue for your self but also to the public using the beach around whilst you are driving. i have looked up the ineffectivness and how bad using mobile phones while driving a car can effect your driving skills where it has its relationships to using the radio and irb or quad bike for transport to a rescue.
"There are different types of driver distraction, usually divided into
those where the source of distraction is internal to the vehicle – such
as tuning a radio, or using a mobile phone, and those external to
the vehicle"
"Using mobile phones can cause drivers to take their eyes off the road, their
hands off the steering wheel, and their minds off the road and the surrounding
situation. It is this type of distraction – known as cognitive distraction – which
appears to have the biggest impact on driving behaviour. There is a growing
body of evidence that shows that the distraction caused by mobile phones
can impair performance in a number of ways, e.g. longer reaction times"
Driver distraction can be one of four tyes
visual (e.g. looking away from the road for a non driving-related task);
cognitive (e.g. reflecting on a subject of conversation as a result of talking
on the phone – rather than analysing the road situation
physical (e.g. when the driver holds or operates a device rather than steering
with both hands, or dialling on a mobile phone or leaning over to tune a
radio that may lead to rotating the steering wheel);
auditory (e.g. responding to a ringing mobile phone, or if a device is turned
up so loud that it masks other sounds, such as ambulance sirens)

From finding it hard to hear casue of always putting the and concentrating on driving the quad it can be also deemmed unsafe.
The factor of trying to hear the radio is very important, where majority of life guards had to palce the radio up close to thier ear to listen to what is being said and driving at high speeds along the beach and is hard to hear casue of winds of the high speeds,/ weather conditions/ and or beach conditions, where distractions of trying to repeat information/ and levels of adreline have an effect on the user when their in a situation of a rescue and the brain cant fully comprehend on instructions being sent to you over the radio.
